3 Required Skills All Business Owners Must Master
It has been our honor here at A Real Change International, Inc to serve over 1.8 million clients globally. In our client base are small business owners, solopreneurs, entrepreneurs, authors, musicians, practioners, corporations, ministries and more. Through the years, I've noticed a few key 'personal traits' that must be present for someone to succeed in any endeavor that is focused on results. For the business owner, that's profits and sales closed. For the ministry, it's donations and discipleship of a congregation. For an author or musician, it's books or CDs sold, and so on.
The 3 skills that are required for any of these organizations to succeed are the following:
- We must have diligence. It is my conviction that diligence should be taught in the schools, starting at grade 1. Learning to navigate through challenges, keeps one's head up, work through difficulty and then come out shining is critical. Follow through despite opposition, and continuing forward, even if we feel weary, is a key trait the successful possess in any area of life. Working with focus, discipline and keeping a steady pace is so important. We should start out small, with things like time management, and then go forward into the more critical areas, like being diligent with our emotions, our boundaries, our tasks, our relationships and more.
- Learning to steward our time and resources. Everyone wants growth, but very few want the added responsibility. When things grow in a ministry, an organization, a business, a career, etc it is imperative that we learn to be adaptive, update our processes and grow, with our growth. The single greatest factor I see in failing small businesses is a lack of wise stewardship with the things God has given them to manage. Everyone prays for growth, but many complain when the growth comes. Business, ministry and career growth demands change. We must learn to steward our lives, our time, our relationships and our resources through the change.
- A great attitude. Being happy isn't necessarily the definition of having a great attitude. Learning to fail while still shining is a key factor in success. An Olympic athlete cannot take it personal when they don't win the prize. They must start immediately to plan our their next year and work on every weakness, so that the victory can be theirs. There is no time for emotional drama, regret, self-loathing or any other destructive habits. A great attitude is a part of maturity. The Bible says in James that the trials of our faith produce inside of our spirit and our lives perseverance. We are exhorted to LET perseverance have it's perfect work. Some days I feel like I'm really going through that perfect work. We all do. But learning to have a great attitude IN the trial is key.
As you build your brand, create your social media campaigns and have company meetings about how to expand your reach, remember these three keys and you'll be shining to the top!
With love,
