Two things your business needs. Just two.

A product or service to sell and customers to sell them to.

But before you think I'm suggesting you act like a slimey used car salesperson who mentions their product or service constantly, I’m not. The only way you'll ever get to your financial dreams online is to create a list and following of ideal clients who want what you have way before you even mention it to them. It's the easiest way to sell in the world.

List building is the one activity that you should be doing daily. 7 days per week, 365 days per year. Building a list of clients to market to is your primary goal. Copy is not king if you have no list. Your offer means nothing if you have the wrong list. The right list with your ideal clients makes running a business easy. AND profitable!

First things first- who is your ideal client?

This can be found by who is already purchasing what you market. Don't try to reinvent the wheel, it's a waste of time and energy! Find a niche that is already successful but lacking great service or a unique positioning and go get rich inside of it.

Finding your ideal client is one of the biggest acts of self-denial you might ever have to go through. It requires you stop thinking about what is important to you and you begin listening to what is important to your client. Research is not related to how you can 'get people to buy your stuff' but to learn what people are already asking for and then, in a very unique and specific way, give it to them!

Finding your ideal client makes it a lot easier to sell anything. It dispels the belief that anyone with a pulse is a client and it will demand you get very focused in everything you do.

Here are some of the tools we use to build our business and find our ideal client-

Google– type in your major keywords and see who the big players are. What are they saying to their clients? What are their clients saying back? Become a student of this relationship and pay very close attention to comments on blogs, Facebook pages and Twitter posts. It's not rocket science, the information is right there for anyone to see. Sad thing is, most people won't take the time.

Social Media– find where these major business experts are and follow them. Watch again how they interact with clients, what the clients are saying back and pay attention to the 'key words' that are often used. Every niche has it's special language and mantras. Find out what they are!

Amazon– search for the best sellers, top authors and big influencers. Again, pay attention to the comments, feedback and what people are saying about the books in your particular niche. Rarely, if ever, will you find a niche where there are no books attached to it. The problem is most people aren't looking correctly. Keep the search broad and then go narrower.

One of the biggest things holding small business owners back who have a great product or service to sell is a lack of customers or clients.

Not having enough clients or customers makes you not only broke but also desperate. It can also, if you're not careful, put you into perpetual planning mode. You'll rewrite, recraft and reengineer your offer so many times you'll forget what the heck it is your selling.

The way to break out of this destructive habit is to get more clients!

Step by step my friends. It doesn't happen overnight. Ignore anyone who tells you it can or does. Not true. But step by step, you too can see the success you’re dreaming about!
