People ask me all the time to share with them the biggest thing that is responsible for the success I’ve had in life and business. They are usually looking for a strategy, something they can apply to their own work, or a secret ‘sauce’ if you will, that they might be missing. For me that big thing is instinct.
An entrepreneur is wired (God gave it to you!) with this inner voice, that goes beyond just heart felt feelings, passion or drive. It’s a knowing without knowing, an understanding without really understanding. But it won’t quit and it is very real. Follow that. You won’t get everything right, when you follow your instinct, but you will be led to many things that are beyond anything you could have ever imagined, if you’ll grow this instinctive way of working.
Dreaming is not instinct, because oftentimes it just stops there. People have dreams that are out there, far off and many times, in their mind, something they can’t have, won’t have and wouldn’t expect to have, but they dream. Instinct however, is something that when you get that gut check, inner thought, you know it’s something that not only can be, but will be.
Instinct can be something as little as knowing what to say on a video, in the middle of a sentence, or knowing what to write about paragraphs ahead of time, while you’re in the middle of writing an article. It’s an inner check guiding you along, something that says, “Don’t turn there, but swiftly move THERE!“
Take risks, follow your instinct. Be willing to make mistakes, be misunderstood and be willing to even be judged. Some of the best business decisions I’ve ever made have been met with other people not believing in what I said, or even questioning my motives. But I knew that it was the right thing to do. Sometimes months later, or even years, the proof would come forth, and we’d see that my instinct was correct. When you do this more than once, you will learn to trust yourself and you learn to just go forward.
That’s the key. Don’t get defensive, look for answers, validation, self worth or anything. Take a risk, trust your instinct. Keep trusting it. Write it down, follow through, go farther each time. You’ll be amazed by what you can create! You’ll be shocked at all you can do without even knowing how to do it. You’ll be filled with faith to go farther, when you come with things you have no clue how you came up with, but that proved to be big winners!
I believe in instinct! Take a risk….
