SECRET # 40 –LIVE BIG, DREAM BIG
Far too many of us end up living in a refrigerator-box-sized life and have no clue we are holding keys to a mansion.
Too often we keep our lives smaller so we won’t be so disappointed. We minimize our goals so we are less likely to fail. We limit our dreams and ourselves so we don’t let anyone down. Yet, deep within our DNA is the human desire to expand, go further, and test the limits.
Deep inside all of us is a yearning not only to do more, but to be more as well. So, living timidly and protecting ourselves actually does let someone down. In not pushing ourselves, we are falling short of our potential and short of what God intended for us.
We think we are being responsible and helpful when we tell kids not to get their hopes up, to come down to reality, and to be practical. But we really are doing harm when we don’t encourage them to dream—and to dream big. We are cheating them when we don’t help them reach for the stars. Mediocrity is not what God planned for us. He made us to do great things.
No, not everyone is made to be a world leader or a celebrity or an innovator, but we are all made with a specific purpose and a drive to fulfill that purpose to the best of our abilities. Settling for the bare minimum of what we can get out of and put into life is not why we are here.
Big dreams are what have enabled the human race to develop throughout history. We would have no advancements in medicine, technology, the arts, government, and all other areas of our cultures without those who dare to push beyond the boundaries of what they can see. The dreamers have grown our communities and made the unimaginable a reality.
Embrace the natural tendency of children to dream, to imagine anything is possible. Nurture that in your children. Give every member of your family the room to be all they were made to be. Give yourself permission to be great . . . to BE MORE.
Be a cheerleader other people’s lives! It’s astounding what people can do when they have someone who believes in them and loves them!
