Twitter For Beginners

So many people look at Twitter like it's a big wide ocean of millions of tweets and they can't figure out how to stick their head up out of the water to get noticed. Problem is, in that big vast ocean of Tweeters, the only ones hearing you are your followers.

We don't need to act like our tweets are going to get lost in a big wide sea of text sized tweets. If we have 879 people following us than on average 87-95 are listening. 10-15 will talk back if you tweet on something that interests them.

Best way to overcome this overwhelming fear that you'll never be heard in a big ocean of people? Realize that the only people seeing your tweets are the people who follow you. Talk to them and get really good at it.

3 Tips For Better Tweeting

1. When you tweet to a celebrity or important person, realize that sending a message with " @sandikrakowski I want all of your followers to know I love you" isn't even being seen by my followers. It's only being seen by who we have in common. So I have 204,000 and you have 1345. We have 7 in common so those 7 saw that tweet. <grin>  But if you put a . in front of . @sandikrakowski or just one word like "Hey @sandikrakowski " now both of our followers are going to see it.

2. Be random and be specific with your tweets. Spice it up. Don't do the same thing all the time.

3. Post articles, but if that's all you post all day long and never interact, most people will ignore you.

Twitter is not a super highway or a huge ocean, it's a town. Your follower count is the size of your town. Be good to your neighbor.
